Babe Didrikson Zaharias Foundation

Established in 1969, the Babe Didrikson Zaharias Foundation was created to preserve and promote the legacy of Babe.  It built the museum in 1976 and since then, has championed support for the woman athlete.  Not only women golfers, but every woman’s sport was considered when recognition was appropriate.

Ben Rogers approached his long time friend, John Gray, a president emeritus of Lamar University, to lend his name and his prominence to such a project.  Thus, the first of many endowed Lamar University scholarships that given annually to the outstanding female athlete who exhibits role model characteristics to her peers was established in his honor.
